The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) in Germany took possession of 13 unregistered cryptocurrency dispensers from across 35 various spots.
Reuters details that this initiative was coordinated with the assistance of the federal police and the Bundesbank, leading to the confiscation of US$28 million in currency.
According to the report, BaFin has said that these dispensers were functional contrary to the provisions of section 32 of the Banking Act without the required permits. The authority also noted that these unlicensed avails are dangerous from having connections to unlawful purposes like money laundering or supporting terrorism. Moreover, these dispensers violated the law that requires validation of the customers; this is crucial in preventing financial crimes.
This move is taking place during a noticeable decrease in the number of Bitcoin dispensers globally. By July, there was a reduction of 440 Bitcoin dispensers, with an additional 173 disappearing by the beginning of August.
A portion of this decrease can be attributed to legal proceedings in the United States against firms like Bitcoin of America, which encountered problems for not having the required licenses.
